Call on your new fierce firecracker, and my dear friend, Leona Mizrahi, for some radical + practical tools to reclaim your spark.
We all know thatwoman, right?
The one who walks into any room, lights it up in a nano second, laughs the longest, stands the tallest, get’s everything she wants, and makes every gal’s skin crawl with envy?
Yeah, well, Leona is that woman {at about 5 foot nothin, no less}. What’s amazing, YOU CAN’T HELP BUT LOOOOOOVE HER {even rave about her}.
Why? Because her *Spark* is anything but Hollywood veneer.
As if dipped in some secret sauce, every inch of Leona’s dream-like being is relentlessly likable. Where others may be easily dismissed as lucky, Leona’s good fortunes have been hard won.
:: Her self-realization + absolute ownership = her “upgraded ferocious faith”
Maybe that is what makes this otherwise “typical nightmare” not only a total delight but {more importantly} a totally trustworthy tool in your tool kit.
Here’s a sneak peek into a fun afternoon we shared, like two spiritual soul sistas, locking down the truth about living with Passion + Purpose. And that is …

Check out who’s the Feature Friday gal at Bodyheart …
It’s no secret that I’ve been proud to photograph for this powerful campaign, but I’m wanting to extend extra Love + Appreciation to our friend Amber Krzys for the sweet honor of being her Featured Friday gal this week. Why? Because it opens up an opportunity for a much-needed dialog between women. This feature is not about me, is not about Amber. It’s about ALL of us; standing together to be SEEN.
If you believe what I believe, that our worth is not measured in numbers on a scale, then please take 60 seconds to read my thoughts on our size “00″ culture and what I know for sure about real beauty.

This week ONLY I’m sending out short + sweet daily love confessionals for my 7 Biggest Mistakes in Relationships. Steer clear of the pitfalls I fell into in my own relationships, even engagement. Find out how I got back on track to being one lucky and in-love lady. {sign up is on the right}
Many of you already know of my love for the Bodyheart Campaign and my proud photography contribution to the cause.
But you may not know the intimate reason behind my love affair.
For those of you signed up for my Backstage Pass {noodle over to the right, if you’re not already} it’s no secret that throughout my adolescence — and well into my twenties — I struggled with poor body image, disordered eating, and chronic self-loathing. A struggle that, as my friend and Bodyheart founder Amber Krzys suggests, imprisoned my body for over a decade.
Today, I am proud to say I am free.
But, it wasn’t always that way.
In the early 2000′s, at the curse of my own body imprisonment, I unknowingly attracted a domestically violent relationship where I endured daily alienation, humiliation, verbal and physical intimidation. Without question, the self-hatred I held for my body — and all that lie within her — was at the core of what allowed that burying experience to ever take place.
Thankfully, after 18 months, the Universe chimed in and whispered to me my real worth. With a strength and a conviction not my own, I left.
In the next years {still half broken} I eventually pulled the self-love up from my toes, climbing my way to the woman I am today; perfectly imperfect and loving life in all its beautiful mess.
If not for the mentorship of dear friends, an incredible therapist, and later a loving + safe relationship, I may not have found the willingness to love myself {let alone thriveas myself}.
In my eyes, this is not about weight loss. This is about hate loss.
I’m living proof that when women take up their full space in the world, being seen and heard for who they truly are, they not only heal themselves but they begin to heal the planet. For me, that’s one chica + one click at a time. For you, it may be something entirely different. Whatever your way is, claim it today.
Stop your body punishment. Start living your legacy.

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”
~ Mignon McLaughlin, Journilist and Author ~
Such a marriage would be easy if your life partner was Jodi or Mike. Lucky for the newly wedded couple, they’d be hard pressed not to find something to fall in love with these days. It seems their recently hitched life is bestowing all kinds of blessings on them, with a new house and a baby on the way! As their photographer and their friend, I couldn’t be happier for them. And having experienced their loving and fun nature over their easy, breezy Dreams Resort wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — I’m certain this little Pang-to-be is going to be born ready to love life! A child after my own heart.
Nope. I can’t think of a single thing better than photographing such a fantastic couple who were chillin’ and relaxin’, in love and laughter, throughout their Destination Wedding. {I should mention guests are served endless fruity drinks and breakfast buffet by the pool … I’m just sayin’}. When you add on the fact that I got to work with my favorite Wedding Coordinator,Vikki, of Vikki and Shannon at All You Need is Love Events, while getting to know these two amazingly warm families, then you’re really going to start doubting that my “work” is really “WORK” at all. Truth is, I’m so privileged to do what I do. I couldn’t feel more gratitude or more joy for these two families coming together and for the “work” we created together. It really makes all the long, long hours editing {HA! See … I DO WORK} worth it in the end.
Check it out … OH … and there’s MORE! Lot’s more, including a killer Trash the Dress Session. Stay Tuned.

Rebirth and Strength, Transformation and Power. ~The Butterfly Nautilus
Anyone who knows me, knows grace and gratitude are just about my two most appreciated nouns in any context. Admittedly, I am haunted by them. Inspired and eluded all at once.
So it is no surprise that I would have connected so deeply with designer Pattie McBride, or fallen so hard for her divine and thoughtful jewelry creations at Butterfly Nautilus. Her vision and her mission, to honor those who have changed our lives with gratitude gifts, pulls right at the heart of my own story. If you’re anything like me, her message will resonate with you too.
For many of my followers, it’s no secret the storms I’ve weathered over the years. While mine are no more dramatic than most, I’ve written some about my false starts, lessons learns, and deep mournings in the Backstage Pass. Moments like unexpectedly losing my dearest friend and roommate to Leukemia or surviving domestic violence — each posed heros and sheros who helped my uncover the upside of down. {Noodle over to your write to get on the list}.
If not for these warm souls, I may still be wading knee deep in loss with no taste for the bitter-sweetness that is life. But like sugar on lemons, their grace and their gratitude softened tart times. And I eventually celebrated my own metamorphosis.
Pattie’s soulfully intentioned Art pieces not only make the perfect Thank You gift but they contribute to something much, much bigger: raising the consciousness of all people to stop, appreciate, recognize and be recognized. And that, my friends, is the type of gift that not only acknowledges our blessings but pays them forward.
If you or someone you love has a powerful story you want to honor, celebrate, and share — post a comment below AND submit your story to the Butterfly Nautilus site when you purchase.
Remember, what I often say: “Our lives are such gifts. Not because they’re perfect, but because they’re ours.”
Check out this Sneak Peek from our Editorial Branding Photography shoot and smile at this masterful, meaningful life — Pattie McBride.

In 2012 Don’t Get Happy, Get Real. ~Karin McDermott
One of the most refreshing New Year’s blog posts I read this go round was by Karin McDermott, the bohemian chic yogini and Pleasure Pioneer who founded and became the Inspiration Chief of Soultree Motion, Inc. and The Soultree Center. Jesting with us recent 2012 crossover peeps, Karin asks in her January 2nd post…
“How is 2012 treating you so far? Are you happy yet?”
{Insert community sigh + overpriced skin cream refunds here}.
This ferociously free, stiletto-lovin’, movement maven {also a daily Lupus Warrior and dedicated single mumma of two} is the fiercest Cultivator of Passion and Purpose I’ve been blessed to know {and that’s as a photography client, a mentor, and now a friend}. The very definition of soulful and authentic living, Karin’s a breath of REAL fresh air in an age of thin and wafty false promises about merely seeking “happiness.” Her work daringly invites you to forget happy and upgrade to authenticity. You won’t just want to befriend her, or even marry her. You’ll want to be her. Period. {It should be known I like “happy” … a whole heck of a lot, in fact! But I like what’s real, what’s sustainable, a whole lot better. For me? That’s soul from gratitude.}
Here’s just a quick sneak of some of the magic we co-created during her Editorial Branding Photography shoot {an AWESOME experience for creating more fame, authority, and eye candy for women entrepreneurs — an offering sought after by fellow women in business, especially since my experience working with Marie Forleo and her masterful B-School and RHH LIVE programs}.
The relentless soul seeker “showed up” in front of the lens in a way that was awe-inspiring. {As if her energy might set the lens aflame during our photoshoot, Karin had a soaring spirit scarcely sealed by her own skin … literally}. This was soulful shooting like no other. And like her post’s words of wisdom and her transformative program offerings, you can see that she’s the real deal.
So say goodbye to chasing happy, hop on Karin’s soulful Pleasure train, and you just may have that “New Year, New You” experience every Gym is selling this month. What’s better? It’ll last long past February. It’ll be real.

Beautiful pictures! I love this because I think that “follow your bliss” thing is very privileged. Her post is more attainable to people going through real life stuff.
KarenJanuary 12, 2012 - 3:52 pm
Thanks @Julie. Funny you should mention the “follow your bliss” idea. I’m always on the fence about that one too because those of us who have that luxury are in the top 1% of the human population. For me, it seems more appropriate to say “If you’re blessed enough to follow your bliss than respect your unearned fortune by appreciating it and passing it forward as best you possibly can … even on the really hard days for the Ego mind will always find a way to make a hard day.” That’s what I love about Karin’s work. She’s about finding the bliss even in the mess. And that takes soul.
Here we go with the second highlights from Marianne + Nigel’s magical purple day!
We start with the men keeping the groom hidden away from the bride, counting down the moments to the couple’s “First Looks.”
Knock out bride on deck … watch out.
These two could not stop giggling before finally locking eyes and hands. Too funny.
This was my FAVORITE surprise of the day! Amazing.
Clearly, this Bridal Party was having no fun at all.
You know you’ve got amazing friends when they surprise you with a decorated Honeymoon RV!!!
All receptions are fun but this one was RIDICULOUSLY fun!!! Phish + Live Band + Purple Lights + Greek Dances + Cake and MORE Cake and MORE Cake … it was the best!!!
Gotta love these DIY creations by the craftiest girl I know, Miss Marianne!
Admiring his gal, sitting on their favorite VW bus lovingly named “The Brun Hilda.” Why you ask? I actually still have no idea. Nigel??? Who is Brun and what’s a Hilda?
Where ever you’re headed in 2012, trust that love just may be around the bend. Take it from Marianne and Nigel. Love is all you need.
Don’t be shy. Send Marianne + Nigel some Comment Love & Congratulations.
No words to do my feelings justice. They’re amazing. LOVE them. Crying again. The one of me and my dad that you’ve been talking about…it’s PERFECT. They’re all PERFECT. My mom with her hand made Katie and Sam hat! All the details from the ceremony. WOW. Love you and thank you. xoxox
KarenDecember 31, 2011 - 11:24 am
YOU are perfect! Brides should take a course from you and Nigel on how to plan a FANTASTIC day and make sure to really ENJOY it when it comes! YOU TWO did just that and it was oh-so-fun to be a part of. From the details to the music to laughs to the tears — this wedding was one for the books. : )
MichelleDecember 31, 2011 - 11:30 am
I really love teh one of him holding her face in the ceremony. He looks over the moon. That’s got to feel aweseome.
KatieJanuary 12, 2012 - 3:38 pm

KarenJanuary 12, 2012 - 3:55 pm
@Katie!!! Are you kidding??? You were a hoot and made the day all the more fun. What hysterical and warm sweet souls you and Sam are. I loved ya from the moment you went in for the biggest hug I’ve ever known. YOU all rocked it out and put the “P” in Partaaaay! xo

“She’s got everything delightful, she’s got everything I need”
~”Sugar Magnolia,” Grateful Dead ~
Confession: Artsy, Bohemian, Travelin’ Brides & Grooms are my favorite. It’s true. I simply cannot lie. Marianne and Nigel are no exception!
The distinct design style … I dare you to top the Purple Tights & Purple Shoes … and the signature stamp on their story … these two Phish followers travel the countryside by VW bus aka their beloved, “Brun Hilda” … made their wedding day nothing short of big time personality and big time fun! Never have I seen guests have more fun than on their dance floor. Good times were had by all at The Westford Regency in Massachusetts.
So buckle up and ride along with Marianne + Nigel for this first road trip. Loads more storytelling images to come, just around the bend.
P.S. Want to know a fun fact? I’ve known this sweet bride since we were toddlers!!! From ballet slippers to wedding shoes, she’s all grown up … which sadly means I am too, EEK! But enough about aging. I want to talk about gratitude with a capital “G.” Words cannot express the honor I felt photographing my oldest friend on her most memorable day. Pure magic, mixed with happy tears. A day I will never forget.
If you have any fun memories of these two as little tikes, or from their wedding day itself, leave a comment!
Part 2 is Coming Soon. Get Ready for First Looks, Bridal Party, Newlyweds, Ceremony and Reception!
In the mean time, give Marianne + Nigel some Comment Love & Congratulations!
Talk about happy. I love these and all their energy! Her hair is EXACTLY what I want for my day!
RachelDecember 15, 2011 - 1:18 pm
another one hit out of the park! i feel the couple’s anticipation of the ceremony like i’m right there with them.
MichelleDecember 15, 2011 - 1:35 pm
I’m in love with these! I’m an amateur photographer but I want to learn more and more about this kind of photo style. Do you see it this way when you shoot? Or do you crop the images like this afterwards? I never know how close to be to my subjects. HELP!!!
@Michelle, great question! I do all my cropping in-camera, meaning I compose my shots in this style {a blend of Photojournalism and Editorial} just as you see them here. The only time I crop in post, is when I’m designing albums, storyboards, or Art pieces. I think when you’re first starting out you want to give yourself challenges to shoot both really tight and really pulled back. Lots of macro detail, balanced with lots of negative space, is the key!
It’s always awesome to chat with peeps on the site. Makes my lunch break ; )
MichelleDecember 15, 2011 - 4:30 pm
Karen OMG! I can’t believe you responded to my question and so fast! You have no idea how helpful your answer is because I tend to shy away from getting the shots I know I like. LIke I don’t want to be rude or intruding but then i end up having to crop almost every image and I can’t always create the exact crop I want. I need to brave up.
MarianneDecember 16, 2011 - 10:42 am
KAREN!!!! They’re beautiful!!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The websites we ordered some of our items off of would be lucky to have such gorgeous shots. They wouldn’t even recognize their products! My favs are the mirror shots. Sammy so serious and handsome and Katie, mom and me! Making me cry. XOXOX
TraceeDecember 16, 2011 - 2:27 pm
These are so awesome. How fun is this??? Captured the mood perfectly.
JasonDecember 16, 2011 - 6:28 pm
Lovely photography. It feels like a look into an alice in wonderland storybook leading up to a glorious wedding ceremony and reception. I can’t wait for more!
KarenDecember 16, 2011 - 10:07 pm
YAY! I love it when I can make brides cry. Kidding. @Mariannne, I’m soooo happy you’re happy! Big BIG Big happy tears right there with you!!!
@Tracee, seriously, how fun is right! The day was one for the books!
@Jason, that’s the best comment ever! Makes me want to shoot an Alice in Wonderland inspiration board … hmmm… the wheels are turning!
@Michelle, I totally get how you’re feeling. I think we all start out trying to find that balance. In Photojournalism they teach you, you can never be too tight. But then with editorial you need to challenge yourself to step further back and shoot with more negative space. Just keep trying, playing, and being bold. You’ll get there!!! Awesome question ; )
Cindy HutchinsonDecember 17, 2011 - 10:22 pm

Awesome Pictures !!! Can’t wait to see more. Really love how this is all put together. Much Love to Marianne on her Birthday today.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m a BIG fan of Art used not only as Activism but also as Therapy. In fact, throughout my Senior year of High School {eek— High School — more on that later} I studied Dance Movement Therapy for a year-long Honors Thesis project. Researching how Dance and Movement could be the best means of communication, even healing, for nonverbal Autistic and Downs Syndrome children, I had the awesome opportunity to sit-in on Graduate classes in Boston. Even cooler? The experience empowered me to host my own clinical DMT workshops with children and give a 30 minute speech to many in my senior class {I should mention, this Senior Project was required to graduate but honestly one of the most powerful teaching moments in all of my schooling}. While I didn’t go on to work professionally as a Dance Movement Therapist, I’ve always remained an inspired advocate of the Art Therapies.
So — you can imagine my excitement getting to meet and work with Kat Fulton, one of the top leading speakers and licensed Music Therapists in the country! People, this woman is like a Rock Star in her world and still as humble as can be. {When we were shooting together she blessed us with an awesome chant and drum beat, which you can hear here}. While we first met through Marie Forleo’s RHH B-School and RHH Live programs, I suspect our creative works will cross many-a-future path. Our shared passion for “The Arts as vehicles for change” is palpable.
Kat also runs Sound Health Music (established in 2005), a San Diego-based team of board-certified music therapists who “design interventions that use music as the vehicle for positive change within corporate, wellness, medical, and enrichment settings.” So if the Rock Star herself is booked, you can count on her expert organization to help you rediscover your life’s rhythm.
These are just a tiny taste of the magic, expertise, and warmth that is Kat and her impassioned, healing, work. Hop over to her site and make yourself known. Chances are, she’ll give a virtual squeeze and drum beat in no time!
Let your life be heard.

Kat, this is exactly what you look like to the rest of us. Freaking gorgeous girl!!!! I heart these photos so much…. and you have now reminded me that I have yet to book my session with Karen, but I will. LOVE from the deepest recesses of my heart, and big kudos to you Karen on capturing Kat’s incredible beauty and fire!
Now there’s a word. Question is … when’s the last time you really experienced pleasure? Hmmm. That’s what I thought.
If you’re like most women, you may be thinking “yeah, I’ll get to ‘pleasure’ when I can finally get caught up.” Problem is, when we live our lives waiting to get “caught up” we miss — you guessed it — our lives. All the money and accolades in the world can’t make up for that.
Enter Kerrie Blazek, your new Pleasure Practioner. Another inspired soul whom I had the privilege to meet at Marie Forleo’s RHH Live event in NYC 2 weeks ago, Kerrie is the founder of The Great Goddess Adventure and soon-to-launch InHerElement.biz.
Shedding her corporate job, her condo, and her material comforts — Kerrie is living with a passion, a purpose, a presence, and a pleasure most of us long to experience. What’s even cooler? She’s doing it all from her Honda Element as she tours the country coaching women from the road, in their homes! Nothing less than awe-inspiring, Kerrie is creating a revolution. If you’re a fellow lover of green smoothies, knitting, playing in nature, and getting back to purpose and pleasure — than Kerrie is your Go To Girl who comes to you!
Get the keys to jump start your pleasure trip. Let Kerrie show you the way.
